Dear Takoma Sportscamps Families,

I am sorry to inform you about disappointing news regarding camp for Summer 2022. I am unable to secure a location for camp this summer. It's very frustrating. I looked forward to bringing our camp community together again.

After starting the process of applying in early January to rent the school, I was told applications were not accepted yet due to Covid. In February I was told a "new and improved" system would be ready for rental applications on February 22, 2022. I reapplied and was informed that the site is not working, and that I cannot apply until May 1, 2022. For planning purposes this date is too late.

I regret the disappointment and inconvenience this causes the Takoma Sportscamps families. I hope the system is functioning in a way that allos us to return to camp in Summer 2023. I miss camp.

-Thanks, Louis

History

Established in 1996, Takoma Sportscamps provides a full day of summer fun and skills instruction to boys and girls ages 6 ½ to 15. We welcome campers of all skill levels and abilities. Takoma Sportscamps began as Takoma Park Babe Ruth Baseball camp. In response to parents' requests for a local sports camp that offers quality instruction at affordable prices, camp director and founder Louis Hoelman added sessions for basketball and softball. We now offer six one-week sessions of camp that provide kids with a safe, fun, instructional way to spend their summer days.

Camp Director

Louis Hoelman teaches Physical Education and is the Varsity Softball Coach at Montgomery Blair High School. He has built one of the strongest Fast-Pitch Softball programs in the state and was awarded coach of the year by the Gazette in 2006, 2011, 2014, by the Washington Examiner in 2006, by Montgomery Blair High School in 2017, and by the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) in 2020. Louis has also coached Basketball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, and Team Handball at Blair. He taught Physical Education at Piney Branch Elementary School from 1993-1999 and was the Athletic Director for the Silver Spring Boys and Girls Club from 1987-1993. He has been an integral part of Takoma Sportcamps since its inception and is responsible for management, staffing, and daily operations.

Camp Staff

Our camp is staffed by coaches and teachers from area public and private high schools, elite college athletes, and high school athletes who have graduated from Takoma Sportscamps and want to give back to the program. We ensure that our staff is knowledgeable about the sports they coach and are trained to make sure campers of all levels have fun and get the most out of camp.
